A man suspected of snatching a deposit bag from a customer at a Core-Columbia bank Wednesday was arrested a few blocks away while allegedly trying to carjack a vehicle.
Fathy Mohammad Abdusalam, 26, allegedly grabbed the bank bag from a pizza-shop manager at the Wells Fargo branch office in the 400 block of B Street in downtown San Diego and fled shortly before 9 a.m., according to police.
The victim ran after Abdusalam for several blocks, then flagged down a patrol officer, who took over the foot chase.
The officer caught up with the suspect in the 1100 block of Seventh Avenue, where Abdusalam allegedly was trying to steal an occupied vehicle, police said.
Abdusalam was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of robbery, attempted carjacking and other charges. His arraignment was scheduled for Friday afternoon.
