A motorcyclist struck by a truck that ran a red light sustained a serious leg injury in the Core-Columbia area of downtown, police said.

The crash occurred about 6:30 p.m. Wednesday when a 1997 Ford F-150 pickup ran a red light on westbound Ash Street and collided with a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle heading north on First Street, San Diego Police officer John Buttle said.

Though serious, the motorcycle’s injury was not life-threatening and he was taken by ambulance to a hospital, Buttle said. Traffic Division officers were investigating the crash, but it did not appear alcohol was a factor.
