An investigation was underway Friday into what sparked a blaze that burned a detached garage behind an Escondido mortuary.
The fire was reported about 6:50 p.m. Thursday behind McLeod Mortuary at 1919 E. Valley Parkway near N. Midway Drive, Escondido Fire Battalion Chief Andre Paredes said.
Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from a detached garage behind the mortuary, Paredes said. They extinguished the flames in about 20 minutes.
Nobody was injured, and the garaged sustained moderate damage, the battalion chief said.
