The San Diego Police Department is planning an unusual Monday night DUI and license checkpoint somewhere in the city limits.
Police regularly announce the checkpoints in advance to deter drunk and drugged drivers, but the checkpoints are typically set up on Friday or Saturday nights or during holidays.
Monday night’s checkpoint will be in operation from 11 p.m. until 3 a.m. Tuesday at a location chosen because of previous accidents and arrests. Officers will be stopping drivers briefly to check for signs of alcohol or drugs.
Over the past three years, San Diego officers have investigated 2,005 DUI collisions which have claimed 42 lives and resulted in thousands of injuries.
