A motorcyclist was severely injured Monday in a possible DUI crash near Kit Carson Park, authorities reported.

The 22-year-old man was heading east at high speed on Mary Lane in unincorporated Escondido when he lost control of his 2007 Yamaha two-wheeler while passing slower-moving traffic shortly before 9:30 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The motorcycle veered off the roadway near Prince Street and struck a rock, hurling the rider onto the ground, said CHP Officer Mark Latulippe.

Medics took the man, an Escondido resident, to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of serious trauma. His name was not released.

“Drug use is being investigated as a possible factor in this collision,” Latulippe said.
