A 76-year-old motorist who was gravely injured this week in a solo car crash near El Camino Country Club succumbed to her injuries Friday, authorities reported.

Marilyn Dungan of Oceanside died at a hospital with family members at her side about 12:30 a.m., according to police.

Dungan lost control of her 1997 Ford Mustang for unknown reasons about 3:15 p.m. Wednesday while heading east on Oceanside Boulevard, near Garrison Street, Sgt. Rick Davis said. The car veered off the roadway, struck a utility pole and overturned, coming to rest on its roof.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation, Davis said.
