An early morning blaze Wednesday that scorched the garage of a vacant apartment building undergoing renovations in Escondido was considered suspicious, authorities said.
Investigators believe the fire in the 1000 block of North Escondido Boulevard, a little north of Ronald Packard Parkway, may have been the result of arson, a police spokesman said, but did not say why.
A witness called 911 to report smoke in the area about 3:05 a.m., Escondido Battalion Chief Andre Paredes said.
“The first arriving engine began firefighting efforts (and) aggressive actions by the firefighters contained and controlled the fire in approximately 15 minutes,” he said.
