The San Diego Police Department warned drivers of a DUI checkpoint somewhere in the city limits on Friday night.

Police will be stopping drivers and checking for alcohol and drug impairment as well as proper licensing between 11 p.m. Friday and 3 a.m. Saturday.

The location of the checkpoint will be chosen based on arrest and accident statistics.

Police regularly announce the checkpoints in advance because research shows that crashes involving an impaired driver can be reduced by up to 20
percent when well-publicized DUI checkpoints are conducted routinely.
