An off-duty San Diego County sheriff’s deputy who was on his way to work was hospitalized with injuries following a crash in Vista, a sheriff’s sergeant reported Tuesday.

A Chevrolet Cobalt driver ran a red light and collided with the deputy’s Ford truck at the intersection of East Vista Way and Arcadia Avenue at approximately 5:18 p.m. Monday, Sgt. William Munsch said.

Witnesses said the Cobalt driver “suddenly entered the intersection into the path of the deputy’s vehicle,” according to the sergeant. The impact caused his truck to “careen into a block wall at an adjacent mobile home park.”

Both drivers were transported to Palomar Hospital with moderate to serious injuries, Munsch said.

According to the sergeant, alcohol was not a factor in the crash.
