A woman accused of causing a May 5 alcohol-related, head-on collision in El Cajon that killed her passenger must stand trial on charges of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and DUI, a judge ruled Wednesday.

Tania Molinar, 22, faces 11 years and eight months in prison if convicted.

Police said Molinar was behind the wheel of a southbound silver Mazda sedan when she allowed the car to drift into oncoming traffic on Avocado Boulevard, where it collided with a Ford Ranger near Horizon Hills Drive about 4:15 a.m.

David Sarabia-Lopez, 29, died at the scene.

Both Molinar and the driver of the Ford Ranger were taken to hospitals to be treated for moderate injuries, police said.

Following a preliminary hearing, Judge Lantz Lewis ruled that enough evidence was presented for Molinar to stand trial.

A readiness conference is scheduled Aug. 29 and trial is set for Sept. 26.
