A 20-year-old motorist was killed early Tuesday when his car crashed into a big rig parked illegally on an Eastlake-area street.
The northbound Hyundai Elantra slammed into the unoccupied commercial vehicle in the 900 block of Eastlake Parkway in Chula Vista about 5:15 a.m., winding up wedged underneath rear of the cargo trailer, according to police.
The driver and sole occupant of the sedan died at the scene. His name was withheld pending family notification.
The trucker had pulled over along the east curb of the roadway — blocking a bicycle path and part of the adjacent vehicle lane — to visit a nearby fast-food restaurant, Sgt. Eric Tarr told reporters.
It was unclear if the commercial driver would face charges over the fatality.
