A road-rage incident ended with a fiery crash in Lakeside, sparking a blaze that destroyed a business Saturday.
Deputies responding to the scene chased a car full of people into El Cajon. It happened before 7 p.m. when two cars were driving on State Route 67, San Diego County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dustin Lopez said. One of the drivers, a Lakeside resident, exited the highway in an attempt to seek help at the Lakeside sheriff’s substation.
A woman tried to careen her car around the man’s vehicle. She seemed to want to stop him from contacting the authorities, Lopez said. This happened at Vine Street and Parkside Street in Lakeside, about two blocks from the substation.
But she lost control of her car and crashed into the Solis Hair Studio at the 12000 block of Parkside St and her car burst into flames inside the salon.
The woman and her passengers managed to get out of the car after it crashed and ran north on Vine Street near the Lakeside Library, Lopez said. Lakeside Fire Department crews were able to put out the fire, but the building was badly damaged.
Deputies described the suspect as a white woman with blonde hair wearing a blue shirt, and her passenger as a white man with his hair in a ponytail, with several tattoos on his arms and wearing a hat.
A deputy responding to the crash spotted a white sedan speeding away from the scene with four passengers, including a man who appeared to match the description of one of the woman’s passengers, Lopez said.
That turned out to be unrelated to the road-rage crash but ended in a separate chase and arrest.
Sheriff’s officials asked anyone with information about the road-rage incident or the pursuit to call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
