A 69-year-old man was in the hospital Saturday with serious injuries and the man who struck him in a DUI crash was in custody.

The crash occurred at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the 5700 block of Copley Drive where the pedestrian was walking diagonally across the street, pushing a shopping cart, according to San Diego Police Officer Ben Newton.

The man was struck by a westbound green Honda Accord traveling in the No. 2 lane on Copley Drive, Newton said.

The pedestrian suffered multiple facial fractures, bleeding from the brain and fractured fibulas, according to Newton. He was transported to a local hospital in serious condition.

The 37-year-old driver of the Honda was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor DUI, Newton said.
