A fire of unknown origin tore through an abandoned Valencia Park home Monday, causing heavy damage but no reported injuries.
The blaze in the 5300 block of Santa Margarita Street erupted shortly before 3 p.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
It took crews about 15 minutes to subdue the flames, which also damaged an adjacent home, fire Capt. Shannon Mueller said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation. Neighbors said the house was frequented by transients and drug users.
