Drones are being used to search for an 85-year-old Scripps Ranch man who went missing last Thursday.
“Relatives of Tai Heng Sun discovered he was missing after they arrived at their home on Maple Grove Lane about 7:30 p.m. Thursday,” The San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
According to the report, Sun, who likes to take walks in the community, likely left the house sometime around 5 a.m. June 15.
Fears over Sun’s safety are compounded by his age, hot weather conditions and his medical condition that includes Alzheimer’s disease and medications for depression, according to the U-T.
President of Scripps Ranch Civic Association Bob Ilko said authorities have been notified of Sun’s disappearance and crews were using drones Wednesday to search for the missing man at the entrance of the West Sycamore area of Mission Trails Regional Park. Surveillance cameras captured images of Sun in that vicinity at approximately 8:30 a.m. June 15, Ilko said.
“We always hope for the best but plan for the worst,” he continued.
Residents have also been posting flyers throughout the Scripps Ranch community.
Sun is described as 5 feet 4 inches tall and 140 pounds with brown eyes and gray hair. Anyone with information about his whereabouts was asked to call San Diego police at (619) 531-2277.
