A predawn fire damaged two neighboring City Heights homes Tuesday, leaving a dozen residents in need of emergency lodging.
Rubbish began burning between the houses in the 3300 block of Chamoune Avenue for unknown reasons at about 2 a.m., and the flames soon spread into the structures, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.
Crews had the non-injury blaze under control within about 10 minutes of their arrival at the scene, city spokesman Jose Ysea said.
The American Red Cross was called in to help the 10 adults and two children displaced by the fire arrange for temporary housing.
Investigators set the monetary losses at $60,000, Ysea said.
