A 38-year-old man riding a motorcycle without a helmet was killed in a crash Friday evening in Rancho Bernardo.

The crash occurred around 9:20 p.m. in the 18600 block of Caminito Cantilena, said Sgt. Michael Tansey of the San Diego Police Department.

The victim was riding a 1993 Suzuki Dirt Bike south on Caminito Cantilena when he lost control of the motorcycle and struck the west curb line, Tansey said.

The motorcycle struck a fire hydrant and a parked vehicle. Witnesses at the scene told NBC 7 the crash caused a geyser.

As a result of the impact, the man sustained significant trauma to his body, Tansey said.

Witnesses who heard the crash found him not breathing and without a pulse. First aid was administered at the scene before paramedics responded, Tansey said.

The man was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.
