A drug user who was shot by police after pointing a BB gun at officers during a foot chase in Linda Vista pleaded guilty Friday to resisting arrest while using a dangerous weapon, a prosecutor said.
Ferdinand Gangano Alarcio, age 52, is scheduled to be sentenced May 9. Deputy District Attorney Michael Runyon said officers went to the corner of Linda Vista Road and Ulric Street at about 2 p.m. Jan. 24 to investigate reports of a dispute between two men, possibly with shots fired.
When officers arrived on scene, the men were gone. Officers searched the area and found two men who matched the description of the suspects and ordered them to the ground, but Alarcio did not comply and pointed what looked like a semiautomatic firearm at one officer, Runyon said.
Alarcio fled and two officers pursued him on foot, eventually shooting the defendant in the hand as he tried to climb a fence at a day care center, the prosecutor said.
After his arrest, the defendant admitted using methamphetamine earlier in the day and pointing the BB gun at the officer, according to Runyon. The prosecutor said an officer took a report of a similar incident involving Alarcio in 2013.
