Authorities released the name Thursday of an 81-year-old man killed this week in a hit-and-run crash on a South Bay street.

Robert Gustafson was walking his dog across the 2200 block of East Fourth Street in National City when a car hit him about 6:45 p.m. Monday, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The motorist did not stop and left the area.

Medics took Gustafson to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where the National City resident was pronounced dead.

Shortly before noon on Tuesday, Efrain Gabriel Black, 20, showed up at National City Police Department headquarters and identified himself as the driver involved in the fatal accident, Sgt. Jeff Meeks said.

Black was booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of hit-and-run causing death.
