Police released this image of the silver 4-door Lexus ES 330 2004-2006 suspected in the hit-and-run.

A man was struck and fatally injured by a hit-and-run driver in a Lexus sedan Thursday while retrieving an umbrella from his parked car alongside a rain-drenched Paradise Hills street.

The silver sedan hit the 49-year-old man as he stood next to his vehicle in the 5900 block of Albemarle Street shortly after 7 a.m., according to San Diego Police.

The victim died at the scene, despite the lifesaving efforts of neighbors and paramedics. His name was withheld pending family notification.

Following the fatal impact, the driver pulled over briefly, then drove off to the east. Home security cameras captured images of the fleeing motorist’s car, which appeared to have substantial front and driver’s-side damage, and possibly a cracked windshield, police said.

The vehicle was later recovered, but no one was arrested, police said.

Anyone with information about the case was asked to call San Diego Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Tipsters may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
