A drunken-driving suspect involved in a collision in North Park early Tuesday was arrested after allegedly stabbing the other involved motorist and getting into a second crash while trying to flee.
Nestor A. Hernandez, 26, was behind the wheel of a car that rear-ended another vehicle near the intersection of 30th Street and Lincoln Avenue shortly after midnight, according to San Diego police.
The driver of the car that was struck walked up to Hernandez’s car and offered to move it out of the street because the suspect seemed inebriated, according to a police statement.
Hernandez allegedly responded by grabbing some sort of sharp object, jumping out of his vehicle and stabbing the other man in the side, leaving him with a non-life-threatening wound.
The suspect then got back into his car, drove off and was involved in a second crash near the intersection of 34th Street and Lincoln Avenue, police said. He allegedly fled that accident scene, as well, but was taken into custody a short time later at Polk and Swift avenues.
Hernandez was booked into the San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, driving while intoxicated, hit-and-run and obstructing a peace officer. He’s being held on $30,000 bail pending arraignment, scheduled for Jan. 10.
