A woman was shot Tuesday under mysterious circumstances in an East County neighborhood, authorities reported.
The 59-year-old victim made a 911 call shortly after 11:30 a.m. to report a medical emergency at her home in the 5000 block of Keeney Street in La Mesa, according to police.
Officers arrived to find her lying in her front doorway, suffering from a gunshot wound to her back, said Capt. Matt Nicholass. Medics took her to a trauma center, where she was admitted in undisclosed condition.
The circumstances of the shooting remained unclear in the midafternoon, Nicholass said. Officers were trying to contact the victim’s family and were looking for a white 2013 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 belonging to her but missing from outside her home, the captain said.
The license plate number of the pickup truck is 62187M1.
