A suspected drunken driving crash in which a car struck a light pole alongside University City roadway with enough force to split the vehicle in two was under investigation Tuesday.
The 25-year-old driver lost control of his speeding 2001 Honda Civic on Genesee Avenue near Centurion Square and crashed shortly after 10 p.m. Monday, according to San Diego Police Officer Dino Delimitros.
“The Honda was split in half and came to rest in the ditch on the side of the road,” the officer said.
The driver suffered a fractured femur, Delimitros said.
