A brush fire off Rio San Diego Drive in Mission Valley Thursday night suspended trolley service in the area, according to authorities with the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System.

The blaze, which broke out shortly after 6 p.m. near Interstate 805, forced the shutdown of Green Line service between the Qualcomm and Mission Valley stations.

During the temporary halt, bus service was provided between the two stations, the SDMTS reported.

Sixty-five firefighters, and two helicopters making water drops, made good progress battling the blaze, and by 9:15 p.m. they were in mop-up mode, according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

SDMTS crews will inspect trolley tracks and wires for damage as soon as fire officials determine it’s safe to do so. At press time, there is no ETA on when Green Line service will resume in the area.

There are no immediate reports of damage to nearby buildings and no reports of injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
