Two thieves referred to President-elect Donald J. Trump and made derogatory comments about Muslims Wednesday while robbing a woman in a parkade stairwell at San Diego State University, authorities reported.
The men, who appeared to be in their early to mid-20s, confronted the victim as she was walking to her car about 2:30 p.m., made ethnically disparaging and political statements, grabbed her purse and backpack and then ran, according to campus police.
The woman left the area to report the crime, and when she returned with officers, they discovered that her vehicle had been stolen as well, Lt. Ronald Broussard said.
The case was being investigated as a suspected hate crime as well as a strong-arm robbery and auto theft, Broussard said.
