A Linda Vista home invasion escalated Friday into a shooting that wounded a pedestrian who had the bad luck to be passing by.

The gunfire in the 2200 block of Crandall Drive erupted about 9:30 a.m., according to police.

Patrol officers arrived to find a 70-year-old man suffering from a bullet wound to the arm, Sgt. Ray Battrick said. Medics took the victim, who was expected to survive, to a hospital.

A man who lives in the area told investigators an acquaintance pulled a gun on him and tried to rob him inside his home, Battrick said. The would-be thief fired the gun inside the house, then chased the resident outside and shot at him again, wounding the pedestrian.

The alleged assailant’s name was not immediately available.
