A 22-year-old man suspected of stabbing his father to death Tuesday in a City Heights apartment was in custody Thursday after surrendering to San Diego Police.
Ismael Beltran was taken by his mother to a Otay Mesa-area police station and was arrested shortly after 7 p.m. Wednesday. He was subsequently booked into jail on suspicion of first-degree murder and for the unrelated warrant.
Beltran is suspected of killing Francisco Javier Beltran, 42, during a loud and violent disturbance in the 3600 block of 42nd Street Tuesday evening, San Diego police Lt. Manny Del Toro said. Authorities have yet to disclose a possible motive for the slaying.
Responding police officers and paramedics found the elder Beltran lying on the floor of an apartment suffering from 10 to 15 stab wounds to his upper body. The victim later died in a hospital, according to San Diego police.
Neighbors told investigators they saw a young man run off immediately after the disturbance.
Investigators named the victim’s sons as people of interest in the case after collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses. Homicide detectives later determined there was cause to believe Ismael Beltran was responsible for his father’s death, Del Toro said.
Beltran was also being sought in connection with the beating of a 72-year-old man on a city bus.
