A 91-year-old woman whose purse was snatched Monday afternoon in Santee has had her bag and money returned following the arrest of a suspected robber.

The elderly victim was in the 9600 block of Mission Gorge Road shortly after 4 p.m. when a man grabbed her purse and fled, according to a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department news release.

The woman was able to provide deputies with a description of the robbery suspect, his vehicle and a direction of travel. Santee deputies, with the assistance of Lakeside deputies, the San Diego Sheriff’s K-9 Unit, and Aerial Support To Regional Enforcement Agencies (ASTREA) found the suspect in his vehicle in a parking lot in the 8500 block of N. Magnolia Avenue in Santee.

Jesse James Farquar, 29, was placed under arrest on suspicion robbery, elder abuse and possession of narcotics; he was booked into San Diego Central Jail, according to the release.

Deputies were able to recover the stolen purse and cash belonging to the victim. The news release reported that when the items were returned to the elderly woman, she “became very emotional, cried and hugged all of the deputies on scene.”
