A fire of unknown origin gutted a construction trailer Monday afternoon on the grounds of Naval Medical Center San Diego next to Balboa Park.
The non-injury blaze erupted about 1 p.m. near a multi-use building undergoing renovation at the hospital complex in the eastern reaches of the park, said Navy spokesman Brian O’Rourke.
Federal firefighters had the flames under control within about an hour.
The cause of the blaze — whose smoke was widely seen — was under investigation.
