A laborer doing construction work in a home near Kit Carson Park Monday came face-to-face with a masked intruder who pointed a pistol at him before fleeing.

The victim made a 911 call about 11:45 a.m. to report the threatening encounter in the 700 block of Mockingbird Circle in Escondido, according to police.

After brandishing the gun, the burglar ran outside, jumped into a silver Ford Explorer or similar vehicle and drove off to the west, toward Bear Valley Parkway, Sgt. Craig Miller said.

There were no signs of forced entry to the house, and it was not immediately clear what the trespasser, a thin man wearing a blue shirt and gloves, was doing there.

“At this point, we don’t know if there’s a loss,” Miller said in the early afternoon.

Escondido Police issued a bulletin asking other law enforcement agencies in the region to be on the lookout for the prowler.
