A 52-year-old Imperial Beach man was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle Sunday morning on the steep, winding roads of Palomar Mountain, the California Highway Patrol said.

The man was riding a 2015 Yamaha R1 motorcycle northbound on South Grade Road, about two miles north of state Route 76, when he lost control, crossed over the yellow line into the southbound lane and hit a guardrail, CHP Officer Jim Bettencourt said.

The motorcyclist — whose name was not released — was ejected from the bike and later pronounced dead at the scene.

No other vehicles were involved, Bettencourt said.

Officers do not think he was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
