A man was seriously injured Monday night when he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene in Vista.

The crash was reported at 7:58 p.m. at the intersection of South Santa Fe Avenue and Santa Anita Place, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department.

A preliminary investigation determined the victim was crossing South Santa Fe Avenue when he was struck by a black, newer model, Nissan pickup truck traveling about 40 mph, Deputy Sean Gallagher said.

The unidentified driver fled the scene northbound on South Santa Fe Avenue, Gallagher said.

The victim was taken by the Vista Fire Department to a hospital with serious injuries, Gallagher said. It is unknown if alcohol was a factor in the collision, according to Gallagher.
