
A estimated 2,500 street racing fans converged on an Escondido Mall late Tuesday night, causing numerous law enforcement agencies to respond to clear the gathering.
Escondido Police, the California Highway Patrol and San Diego Police all responded to the parking lot of Westfield North County to clear the gathering before any serious incident.
Multiple vehicles were cited for traffic violations, and several street races were reported. Three crashes on Tuesday night were potentially related.
Police at the scene were unable to confirm if anyone was arrested or what charges they may face.
The meetup was sponsored by Krispy Kreme Tuesdays, an informal gathering of Southern California street racing enthusiasts. The location of the meetup was posted on Facebook around 9 p.m. Tuesday.
