The Chula Vista Police Department announced today it received a $77,000 grant from California Alcoholic Beverage Control to help crack down on alcohol-related crimes.
It’s one of 54 grants that were awarded throughout the state as part of the ABC’s grant assistance program, according to Police Chief David Bejarano.
The funds will be used to reduce alcoholic-beverage sales to minors and obviously intoxicated patrons, the illegal solicitation of alcohol and other criminal activities such as the sale and possession of illegal drugs.
“The program improves the quality of life in neighborhoods,” ABC Director Timothy Gorsuch said. “We’ve seen a real difference in the communities where the grant program resources have been invested.”
The program was designed to put bad operators out of business, keep alcohol away from minors and impose penalties such as fines, suspensions or revocations against businesses that violate laws, according to Gorsuch.
