Two men were arrested at a convenience store in Colina Del Sol after allegedly beating up a 25-year-old motorist and driving off in his car, authorities said.
The victim told police he picked up a man and a woman in the vicinity of 49th Street and University Avenue around 5:10 a.m. then picked up another man on nearby 51st Street. But shortly afterward, the two male passengers attacked the driver for unknown reasons, according to San Diego Police Officer Frank Cali.
The driver abandoned his black Mercedes-Benz near the intersection of 49th Street and Orange Avenue and ran off, Cali said. One of the suspects hopped into the drivers seat and sped off.
Officers later spotted the stolen car at a 7-Eleven store on University Avenue near 49th Street and arrested Manuel Gonzalez, 23, and Alfred Reyes, 36, according to the officer.
It was not immediately clear if the female passenger was considered a suspect. Cali said Robbery Unit detectives were investigating.
