An investigation was underway Tuesday into a collision in Valley Center that killed one driver and injured a second.
An eastbound Honda Accord drifted off the side of Lilac Road near Candle Way. The 24-year-old Fontana man behind the wheel overcorrected and the Honda veered into oncoming traffic around 11 p.m. Monday, California Highway Patrol Officer Gil Ochoa said.
The Honda was struck broadside by a westbound Toyota 4-Runner. Ochoa said the Honda’s driver died at the scene.
The driver of the SUV, a 38-year-old Valley Center resident, suffered only minor injuries in the crash and was taken to Palomar Medical Center, according to the officer.
Ochoa said neither driver was suspected of driving under the influence.
Lilac Road was temporarily closed in the area following the crash, but has since been reopened, according to the CHP.
