Two motorcycles collided Wednesday during a street race on Palm Avenue near Imperial Beach, leaving both riders and a passenger injured.

A 26-year-old rider with a female passenger attempted to swerve around the right side of his competitor on westbound Palm Avenue at the same time as the second rider was attempting to turn right onto 16th Street. The two bikes collided at a high rate of speed near the intersection at about 7:45 p.m., San Diego Police Officer Dino Delimitros said.

The first rider suffered a fractured femur and spine and his passenger sustained what were only described as serious injuries. Delimitros said the second rider, who is also 26, had minor injuries.
