Three people were hurt when a hit-and-run driver slammed into their car in a head-on crash in the Emerald Hills area, but was arrested after he tried to run from the scene, according to police.

The collision occurred on the Euclid offramp on the eastbound Highway 94 at 9:50 p.m. Friday, according to San Diego police Officer Robert Heims.

The alleged hit-and-run motorist, identified as 46-year-old Bulfrano Cervantes-Salmeron, was driving a silver Dodge 1500 pickup east on Highway 94 when he took the Euclid offramp, Heims said. Cervantes-Salmeron lost control of his truck at the top of the ramp.

His truck then crossed over all the lanes, jumped a raised median and crossed into the southbound lanes of Euclid Avenue, Heims continued. There he crashed head-on into a Mercedes with three people inside.

The woman driving, who was in her 60s, complained of pain to her legs and arms. Her 64-year-old female passenger in the front seat suffered a fractured sternum and a 68-year-old man in the back seat had a fractured hip, Heims said.

Cervantes-Salmeron tried to run from the scene but was caught a short distance away, Heims added. He was booked on a felony driving under the influence charge as well as hit-and-run.
