Border Patrol agents arrested a 31-year-old woman on Thursday after finding two Mexican men in her vehicle’s trunk at the checkpoint on Interstate 8 near Pine Valley.

The woman, who was driving a 2012 Kia Optima, was stopped at 3 a.m. and questioned by officers, who searched the vehicle and found the two men.

The driver was  arrested and faces federal human smuggling charges.

“Campo Station agents did an outstanding job detecting this human smuggling case leading to the rescue of two individuals and now the driver faces criminal prosecution,” said Agent in Charge David BeMiller.

From Oct. 1, 2015, to May 31, 2016, Border Patrol agents in San Diego Sector have apprehended 20,782 people.
