A motorist suspected of driving under the influence of synthetic drugs crashed into four parked cars and led officers on a brief chase through Coronado Wednesday before he was taken into custody.
Officers began tailing Cory Causey, 23, after he allegedly struck one parked car on Fourth Street near Naval Base Coronado around 8 a.m.. He continued onto Orange Avenue, and at one point tried to head north in the southbound lanes, according to a Coronado Police statement.
His vehicle then struck a street sign near Centennial Park and he drove against traffic on First Street until crashing into three other cars parked near the intersection with D Avenue, police said.
Officers pulled Causey from the wreckage of his car and took him into custody.
Causey was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries he suffered in the crashes, and was expected to be subsequently booked into jail on suspicion of hit-and-run and driving under the influence of a synthetic drug, according to police.
