A 22-year-old man suspected of tying to pass a bad check at a San Diego bank and later failing in an attempt to carjack two vehicles was arrested after getting onto a bus.
The man — later identified as Moises Garcia-Perez — entered the Bank of America branch at 9290 Mira Mesa Boulevard and left after unsuccessfully trying to cash a fraudulent check, according to San Diego Police Department Officer Robert Heims.
“He returned later and tried to get his ID back which he had left at the bank,” Heims said.
Bank personnel called police and the man fled when they arrived, according to the officer.
“The suspect ran across the street and tried to carjack a motorcycle but was unsuccessful,” Heims said. “He jumped a fence and tried to carjack a car but was unsuccessful again.”
The suspect then got on an MTS bus, which stopped a short time later, and the man was arrested as he disembarked, Heims said.
