A man is suspected of robbery after he was caught on camera swiping an animal shelter’s charity’s donation box from a La Jolla clothing store.

The San Diego Police Department told NBC7 they’re looking for the suspect, who was last seen darting away from My Sister’s Closet, 8610 Genesee Ave., at about 3:45 p.m. Friday.

The suspect was seen on a surveillance camera placing the box — which contained about $100 earmarked for the Rancho Coastal Humane Society, employees told the station — into his backpack.

“He literally walked up to the register (and) grabbed the box of money,” store employee Randy Patterson told the station.

Patterson told the station that his manager at the store chased the suspect, but was unsuccessful in locating him. He said the suspect did leave behind a bag full of his personal items.

Patterson wondered why the suspect would target a charity for his illicit plans.

“You’re stealing from people who really need this money, animals that need this money — they need every cent they can possibly get,” he said.
