A husband and wife were found dead Friday afternoon inside a Southcrest home in what authorities suspect was a murder-suicide.

Police responded just after 5 p.m. to a report of two people found dead inside a residence in the 3800 block of Gamma Street, according to Lt. Ray Valentin of the San Diego Police Department‘s Homicide Unit.

The couple’s death was the result of a murder-suicide, police told the San Diego Union-Tribune. Police could not be reached immediately for comment.

Officers found one male and one female — both in their 40s — dead with gunshot wounds to their upper torsos, Valentin said.

The victims’ names are being withheld pending family notification, he said.

Police urged anyone with information about the deaths to call homicide detectives at (888) 580-8477, or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
