A young man was facing charges Monday for allegedly stabbing a 14-year-old boy and slashing his face during a fight at a high school party on La Jolla Shores Beach.

The altercation between the boy and the 18-year-old suspect broke out shortly before 11:30 p.m. Monday as a group of students from Poway High School gathered at the popular beach spot, San Diego Police Officer Dino Delimitros said.

The victim suffered a stab wound to his back and a cut across his cheek. One of the suspect’s fingers was dismembered during the fight. Delimitros said their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The assailant was later arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, according to the officer. His name was not immediately available.
