A 37-year-old Carlsbad man was killed Sunday when he was ejected from his motorcycle on a curve in state Route 78 near Santa Ysabel and was hit by a second rider.

The victim lost control of his 2012 Harley-Davidson motorcycle in the westbound lanes near Springview Road and was thrown into the path of an eastbound 2009 Kawasaki motorcycle shortly before 5 p.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Kevin Pearlstein said.

The 43-year-old San Diego man riding the Kawasaki was unable to avoid the downed motorcyclist.

The rider of the Harley died at the scene, Pearlstein said. The second rider was taken to Palomar Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries.

Pearlstein said drugs and alcohol were not suspected factors in the crash
