A 21-year-old Vista man was killed in a possibly speed-related crash late Thursday night on state Route 78.
A witness told investigators the victim’s 1999 Honda Prelude was speeding along the eastbound highway separating Oceanside and Carlsbad shortly before it went off an embankment near El Camino Real about 11:15 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jim Bettencourt.
Bettencourt said the driver died at the scene.
The accident remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol and other authorities.
