A motorist was severely injured Wednesday when his speeding sports car hit a second vehicle, then careened through a stucco wall and struck two trees and two fences before coming to a rest in an Oceanside resident’s yard.

It all started as the 2012 Nissan 350Z coupe collided with a turning Toyota Prius at a high rate of speed on westbound North Santa Fe Avenue near Elsinore Street shortly before 7 p.m., according to Oceanside Police Lt. Matt Cole. The driver of the Prius was not hurt.

The driver of the Nissan apparently lost control after the crash, which sent the car across the roadway and up an embankment. It then struck a large tree, plowed through the stucco wall outside a residence on Powell Road, hit a palm tree and then a security fence for a swimming pool, Cole said.

The Nissan continued through a backyard and another fence before finally stopping up against a decorative fire hydrant, Cole said.

The driver suffered injuries to his lower back and legs and was airlifted to a hospital, according to the lieutenant.
