A 60-year-old motorcyclist suffered serious arm and hand injuries in a collision with a truck on Wednesday in Escondido.
At about 5:55 p.m., officers were dispatched to North Broadway and Highway 78, arriving at about 6 p.m. to find a 2004 white Ford F-150 and a 2010 blue Harley Davidson motorcycle had collided, said Lt. Mike Kearney of the Escondido Police Department.
According to statements from the drivers and witnesses — along with evidence at the scene — authorities determined that the motorcycle rider, Michael Zukas was headed south on Broadway, while the driver of the truck, 27- year-old Jose Gonzalez Jr., had been headed north on Broadway, Kearney said.
Gonzalez had been making a left turn into a park-and-ride facility at the time of the collision, according to Kearney.
Both men are Escondido residents. A passenger in Gonzalez’s pickup truck said they were in pain in the wake of the collision.
No arrests have been made, according to Sgt. Chris Leso.
An investigation is underway on what caused the collision. Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to call Traffic Division Officer Russ Gay at (760) 839-4470.
