A brush fire blackened about eight open acres Monday afternoon in a remote area near the U.S.-Mexico border in southeastern San Diego County.
The blaze erupted for unknown reasons about 4 p.m. off Zarina Lake Drive in the rural Tierra del Sol area, east of Campo, according to Cal Fire.
Within two hours, ground crews and personnel aboard firefighting aircraft had halted the spread of the flames, said Cal Fire Capt. Kendal Bortisser. There were no reports of structural damage or injuries.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
