A motorist died Friday when a van crashed off State Route 76 near Guajome Regional Park.
The vehicle was traveling to the east at high speed about 1 p.m. when it veered off the roadway for unknown reasons just east of Melrose Drive in Oceanside, police spokesman Ryan Keim said.
The driver, whose name was not immediately available, was ejected and died at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
Officers shut down one lane of the highway in the area to allow for investigation of the accident, Keim said. The closure was expected to last several hours.
